My name is Stacy Aguilar, and I’m passionate about helping female founders and small businesses create beautiful, strategic websites that not only look great but work to convert visitors into customers. Welcome to The Happy Homepage Checklist!
This checklist is designed specifically for female founders who want to ensure their website’s homepage is optimized for growth and success. Whether you’re just starting, or looking to refine your existing site, this checklist covers essential best practices to help you build a homepage that not only reflects your brand but drives results.
Have questions or need further support? I’d love to hear from you! You can email me at [email protected], head to my website, or send me a DM on Instagram @stacyeaguilar. Let’s make your homepage shine!
</aside>
- [ ] Clear Headline: Does your headline instantly communicate what your business offers?
- [ ] Subheadline: Is there a concise subheadline explaining how you solve a problem or meet a need?
- [ ] Call to Action (CTA): Do you have a prominent, easy-to-find CTA above the fold (e.g., “Get Started” or “Book a Call”)? (This means before you have to scroll down further.)
- [ ] Hero Image: Does your hero image or video reflect your brand and resonate with your target audience?
- [ ] Visual Hierarchy: Is the layout structured to guide the visitor’s eye from most important to least important elements? Make sure you use H1 only once on your page, and for the most important thing at top. (Assuming it’s the biggest font, too!) Use H2 for titles throughout the page, and break up sections with different background images/colors/formats.
- [ ] Trust Signals: Do you have customer testimonials, logos of partners, or certifications to build credibility?
- [ ] Simple Navigation: Is your navigation menu clean and easy to understand with limited options?
- [ ] Mobile-Friendly Design: Is your homepage optimized for mobile viewing, ensuring text is readable and buttons are tappable? (Having small buttons or text too close to buttons is a huge NO on mobile!)
- [ ] Page Speed: Have you tested your page speed to ensure the homepage loads quickly? (This is my favorite tool to test website speed — and it’s free!)
- [ ] Strong CTA Buttons: Are your CTA buttons bold, clear, and action-oriented (e.g., “Get Your Free Guide” vs. “Submit”)?
- [ ] Branding Consistency: Are your fonts, colors, and imagery aligned with your brand identity?
- [ ] Client/Customer Highlight: Are you showcasing a success story or featuring a client on your homepage to inspire visitors?
- [ ] Pain Points: Does the homepage address your audience’s key challenges or pain points?
- [ ] Solution-Oriented Copy: Are you clearly explaining how your product/service solves the visitor's problem?
- [ ] Social Proof: Do you feature social media reviews or a real-time Instagram feed to build trust?
- [ ] Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Is your homepage content optimized with relevant keywords for SEO? (This is a great, free, SEO tool for Squarespace. This is also a great resource by Squarespace. And one for Kajabi.)
- [ ] Contact Information: Is there a clear way for visitors to contact you directly (e.g., email, phone, or form)?
